JASO Fall 2018 Japanese Class Schedule Announced

This fall, JASO offers three classes in Japanese language for general and business purposes.

Introduction for Japanese for Business – BJB 101, Thursdays 6:30-8pm
This course provides participants with an opportunity for intensive speaking and listening practice to improve Japanese-language oral communication skills. Through active classroom participation within a culturally-authentic context, participants will deepen their awareness of the Japanese language.

After taking this 8-week course and with sufficient effort, participants will be able to understand and exhibit culturally-appropriate Japanese business behaviors and will become confident interacting with Japanese business people in real-world situations.

Participants will practice greetings and ritual expressions; introducing themselves; exchanging business cards; and talking about people, places, daily activities, schedules, food and drinks, and shopping. Conducted in Japanese.

Beginning Japanese for Business – BJB 102/103, Tuesdays 6:15-7:45pm

This class is for students who have taken BJB101 and/or 102 or who can demonstrate ability to speak Japanese at the level higher than BJB101.

After taking the 8 week course and with sufficient effort, participants will become more confident speaking Japanese and will be able to communicate well with Japanese people without offending business partners or clients in Japan.

The course focuses on oral communication in a culturally-appropriate manner, with an emphasis on pronunciation that facilitates natural interaction with native speakers. Conducted in Japanese.

Intermediate Japanese for Business: Selected Topics – IJB 303, Tuesdays 7:50-9:20pm

This course is for those who have completed a minimum of two years of formal language instruction (or equivalent) and are familiar with basic Japanese grammar patterns.

This class is for participants roughly at Level 2 on the ILR (The Interagency Language Roundtable) proficiency scale who are working on reaching Level 3. Course content will be determined based on participants’ skill level and needs.

Students are expected to be comfortable studying short passages with intermediate kanji.

All courses need a minimum of 4 students committing in order to run. Each course has 8 classes, with 90 minutes/class. 12 hrs total. If you are unsure of your level - sign up! We will work together to find the best class for you.
